Ham Portuguese Pie Recipe
A hearty and comforting Ham Portuguese Pie is rich filling full of dice smoked ham and vegetables. It’s inspired by the Portuguese pizza. My favorite pizza! The filling is exactly how I like my pizza (I know there are variations of this flavor).
The truth is that I love to prepare savory pies for dinner. It’s simple to make, easy to adapt with the ingredients that are in the fridge and it is delicious.
Without many secrets, this Ham Portuguesa Pie recipe the batter is made in a blender, and the pie filling can be made in advance.
Suppose you have a lunch gathering at friend’s house and you don’t know what to bring?
Problem solved! You can bring this delicious Ham Portuguese Pie filled with smoked ham, mozzarella cheese, boiled egg, carrot, corn, olives , onion, tomato and peas. It’s the perfect dish to bring to any occasion.
It’s easy to make, can be prepared in advance which I can affirm that it’s even more delicious the next day. A pie that can be served as lunch or dinner. It can be accompanied by rice, salad, or with nothing because this pie is complete meal. I know for sure your guests will love it and if you have many friends coming over I advise you to make more than one pie. Enjoy!
How to make Ham Portuguese Pie
INGREDIENTS:
FOR THE
FOR THE BATTER
- 3 cups all- purpose flour
- 4 eggs
- 1 2/3 cup milk ( 400 ml)
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup canola oil
PIE FILLING INGREDIENTS:
- 200 grams smoked chopped ham
- 1/2 cup chopped cooked carrots
- 200 grams shredded mozzarella ( low sodium )
- 1/3 cup of canned corn ( low sodium)
- 1/2 cup of peas
- pitted olives ( optional)
- 6 tablespoons tomato sauce for pizza
- 1 onion cut into slices
- 1 large tomato into slices
- oregano to taste
- NOTE: Dry the corn, the carrots and peas using a paper towel, so they don’t release water into the pie, which will make your pie soggy.
Preparation:
- Preheat oven to 350 F.
- In a blender beat the eggs, milk, oil, and salt until well mixed. (you can beat with balloon whisk if you prefer.
- In a large bowl pour the liquid mixture and gradually adding the flour and mix all ingredients with balloon whisk or hand- mixer at medium speed. For last add the baking powder and mix well.
- Pour half of the batter into a 10 x 3-inch round cake pan. In preheated oven at temperature 350 F bake for just 15 minutes.
- After the half batter is baked you spreading the pizza sauce on it and add the chopped ham, corn, carrot, peas, olives, eggs, onion rings and sliced tomato and divide the mozzarella in two halves and spreading half of mozzarella on the tomato.
- Sprinkle a little oregano ( It’s opcional) Pour the rest of the batter and spread the rest of mozzarella on top and bake for 40 minutes or so.
- Wait to cool before cutting.

Can I change the Portuguesa Pie filling?
Absolutely. You can change the ham for shredded chicken, ground beef or sausage. You can also change the type of cheese to your preference.
